As part of the risk assessment, check whether other tools, such as a circular saw or sabre saw, can be used interchangeably.
- The operating instructions provided by the manufacturer must be followed
- Use personal protective equipment in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions for use and the results of the hazard and risk assessment, i.e.:
Cut-protective garments or garments with inserts made of cut-protective material,
Cut-protection gloves,
Protective helmet with face or eye protection,
Ear defender plugs,
Alternatively, gloves with cut-resistant material inserts.
- Before starting work, check the effectiveness of the chain brake
- Set the idle speed so that the chain does not run during start-up
- Use only sharp chains and tension them so that they rest completely on the guide bar
- Use recoil resistant chains and guides wherever possible
- Use a spiked bracket
- Maintain a safe working position
- Do not cut above shoulder height
- When starting, rest the petrol chainsaw and hold it firmly. The chain must not touch the floor during this process
- Always hold the chain saw with both hands
- Only pull the chainsaw out of the wood when it is running
- Ensure that no person is in the danger zone
- Do not cut with the end of the blade. Danger of kickback!
- Asymmetrical guides or recoil-resistant chains should be used when drilling holes (e.g. during renovation of old buildings).
- Switch off the engine before putting down the saw
- Fit the chain guard when transporting the chain
- Switch off the engine or pull the plug when carrying out maintenance and repair work
Medical checks
Depending on the risk assessment, organise (mandatory) or offer (optional) medical checks. To this end, seek the advice of a company doctor.
